On October 24th, the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) proudly joined the nation in commemorating ZambiaΓÇÖs 61st Independence Day.
Guided by this yearΓÇÖs theme ΓÇÿ61 Years of Peace and Unity: Building a Resilient and Prosperous ZambiaΓÇÖ the celebration served as a heartfelt reminder of our nationΓÇÖs enduring strength, shared values, and collective vision for a healthier and more equitable future.
Across NHIMA offices, staff came together in a spirited display of patriotism, adorned in national colors, sharing traditional foods, and embracing the cultural richness that defines ZambiaΓÇÖs unity in diversity.
NHIMAΓÇÖs Commitment to a Healthy and Prosperous Nation
Speaking during the celebrations, NHIMA Director General, Mr. Michael Njapau, reflected on the AuthorityΓÇÖs vital role in advancing national resilience through health coverage.
ΓÇ£Health is the foundation of prosperity. As we celebrate 61 years of independence, NHIMA remains dedicated to ensuring that every Zambian has access to quality healthcare, regardless of status or location,ΓÇ¥ he said.
He went on to remind staff that independence is not an event, but a living legacy:
ΓÇ£It lives on in how we serve, how we uplift, and how we build. At NHIMA, our mission reflects this legacy. By delivering accessible, equitable, and quality health coverage to every Zambian, we are directly contributing to the nationΓÇÖs resilience and prosperity.ΓÇ¥
Mr. Njapau further emphasized that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is more than a policy framework, it is a national promise:
ΓÇ£Health is the foundation of progress. Without it, dreams are delayed, and potential is lost. The NHIS ensures that no Zambian, regardless of income or background, is left behind when it comes to healthcare.ΓÇ¥
He concluded with a message of commitment and hope:
